VHP to set up 10 lakh Ram temples across India

Ayodhya, June 12: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today said it would establish 10 lakh Ram temples in the country by 2008 to awaken 'Hindutva'.

''Through Ram Mahotsav, we wish to awaken 'Ram Rajya' in the villages and cities. In 2005, we distributed 60,000 Lord Ram and Sita idols to people on the occasion of Ram Navmi,'' VHP media in charge Sharad Sharma said here.

''VHP also wanted to distribute one lakh idols in the third Vishwa Hindu Sammelan at Prayag, but due to the sea of pilgrims during the Ardh Kumbh Mela, only 60,000 could be given,'' Mr Sharma informed.

He said except Uttar Pradesh, 'Shri Ram' idols had also been distributed in Uttarakhand, Bihar, Asom, Haryana, Delhi and Jammu&Kashmir.
