TN CM gives aid to 32 people for medical, education expenses

Chennai, June 12 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi today distributed an assitance of Rs 3.20 lakh on behalf of "Kalaignar Karunanidhi Trust" to 32 poor people to meet medical and educational expenditure.

A party release here said the beneficiaries, hailing from various districts in the state, were given a sum of Rs 10,000 each on behalf of the trust out of the interest acrued from the corpus of Rs four crore in May this year.

After starting the trust with the corpus of Rs five crore, the DMK Leader had been providing assistance to the needy out of the interest acrued from the fund and had so far distributed assistance to the tune of Rs 47.85 lakh.

In January, he had donated Rs one crore for setting up a permanent vanue for organising book fair and since then, interest from the balance of Rs four crore was being given to the poor to meet their medical and educational expenditure, it said.
