Sugar mills owe Rs 332 cr to cane farmers
Siddharthnagar, June 12: About 22 sugar mills of Gorakhpur and Basti division in Eastern Uttar Pradesh owed a hefty amount of Rs 332 crore to cane farmers.
According to sources, out of the debted amount, Rs 273 crore was of the ongoing crushing season, while Rs 59 crore was outstanding since before.
The seven sugar mills in Kushinagar owed Rs 86.98 crore of the crushing season, whereas, three mills in Gorakhpur had a debt of Rs 13.27 crore. Mills in Deoria, Maharajganj and Basti districts carried a debt of Rs 21.04 cr, Rs 52.35 cr and Rs 98.89 cr respectively.
Sugar mills in Sardarnagar, Kaptanganj, Khalilabad, Kathkuiya and Gauri Bazaar had an outstanding debt of Rs 23 cr, Rs 14 cr, Rs 6 cr, Rs 4 cr and Rs 3 cr respectively to the sugarcane farmers.
