State, defence team continue their drive against viral fever

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 12 (UNI) The state health officials along with the defence medical team today continued for the second day with their efforts in containing the spread of viral fever in Kerala, even as cases of viral infection has come down in various hospitals.

Only 26,000 cases of viral fever were reported today whereas it was 32,000 cases yesterday, sources in the Health Department said.

Even when efforts were on to contain the spread of the dreaded virus, three more deaths were reported today taking the toll to 42.

The three deaths were reported from Kottayam (one) and Pathanamthitta (two). However, the local media reports informed that the toll had crossed 80.

The sources said the suspected cases of Chikungunya in the state was 8,011, including 157 confirmed cases. While dengue fever cases were also being reported from the state where as five cases of dengue had been confirmed till now.

Meanwhile, a week-long sanitation campaign got underway in the state today to check the spread of the Viral fever on a war footing.

All the political parties joined the sanitation drive in their individual capacity and the drive was on in all the cities, towns and village panchayats. Government officials, defence and police personnel, NGO's and students were participating in the drive.
