Solidworks to expand presence in India

Bangalore, June 12: Capitalising on the high growth curve of the Indian manufacturing sector, SolidWorks Corporation, leader in three dominesional Computer Aided Design market today announced expansion of its base in the country, besides increasing the head count in its research and development centres.

Company Country Manager Manoj Mehta told newsmen here today that the number of staff would be increased to 90 this year, from 60 last year. Besides the number of value added resellers would be increased to 30 from the current 18.

''Currently we are in 12 cities and by the year end we would be in 20 cities including Jamshedpur, Dehradun, Chandigarh and Lucknow in North besides in Kochi, Nagpur, Indore and Goa,'' Mr Mehta added.

Mr Ved Narayan, Solid Works Vice President for Asia Pacific said, that the region contributed 25 per cent of the total revenue of the company amounting to 300 million dollars.

With India quickly emerging as the design engineering hub of the world, SolidWorks was helping companies realise the opportunities available in high value manufacturing design. ''The company has fast-tracked its investments and plans in the country as it recognises India's strong growth potential in this space'' he added.

With its high engineering base, India was well poised to gain the leadership position in the design market. Engineering Design was growing at about 25 per cent to 30 per cent in India, he said.
