Six lakh landless families to be covered under Watershed Mission
Bhubaneswar, Jun 12 (UNI) The Orissa government today decided to cover six lakh landless families under the Watershed Mission programme in the state.
The decision was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while preparing for a five-year long term strategy for implementing the watershed mission in the state.
Mr Patnaik also directed the authority to intensify the watershed mission in the areas inhabited by the Juang, a primitive tribe in Orissa so that it would expedite the socio-economic benefit of the tribal community.
Official sources said so far 20,040 watershed projects had been undertaken in the state under five various programmes which included 14,303 projects alone in the KBK region.
