Punjab Police nab gang involved in bank robberies

Ludhiana, June 12(UNI) The Punjab Police busted a gang involved in a number of bank dacoities and thefts in various parts of the state since the last couple of years.

The breakthrough into several cases was achieved when the police arrested three members of this gang near Aliwal village in Ludhiana rural police district after a brief exchange of fire last night, IGP (Zonal) Sanjiv Kalra here today stated.

The recovery from the three included six revolvers, a pistol, Rs 50,000 in cash, 59 cartridges, a mobile phone, a motorcycle and a scooter.

The arrested persons were identified as Lakhvir Singh alias Lakhi alias Raj a resident of Bhullar Bet in Kapurthala district, Paramjit Singh alias Rinku alias Sunny of Mehtabgarh, Baldev Singh alias Billu alias Rana of Khusropur village in Kapurthala district.

This gang had looted several banks including the Canara Bank in Goraya town of Jalandhar district last month. A sum of Rs seven lakh was looted in this dacoity.

The gang also looted Rs four lakh from a Cooperative Bank in Pharal village in Jalandhar in April this year and Rs five lakh from a bank in Jalandhar city in 2003.
