Chennai, June 12 (UNI) Puthiya Thamizhagam (PT) Founder President K Krishnasamy today appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, to take appropriate actions against the ongoing land gambling in different parts of the state, especially in areas situated on the inter-state borders.

Speaking to reporters Mr Krishnasamy alleged that influential people from neighbouring Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh had started acquiring thousands of acres of wet land and other lands meant for industrialisation and educational purposes in benami names.

The large scale land gambling are prevatent in bordering areas like Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Virudhunagar, Theni, Cumbum, Dindigul, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Chennai suburbans.

Due to the hike in land rates, the local people were unable to purchase even a house site.

He also alleged that the land acquired for setting up industrial units, would be utilised for real estate business. He said it was high time for the Tamil Nadu Government to put an end to this illegal practice.

The PT would draw government's attention to this direction by launching a state-wide 'Tamilman Retrieval Right Agitation'' on June 15, in front of all the district collectorates.

He alleged that Mr Karunanidhi, who was speaking about social justice, had failed to provide reservation for women and dalits in the coming cooperative elections in the state. He urged the Chief Minister to provide reservation for them if he was really interested in social justice.

He also wanted that the State Government should adopt transperancy in its proposed Centrally-Assisted Metropolitan Development Projects at Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore, which involved several crores of rupees.
