Pilgrims defying heat wave for 'Govardhan Parikrama'

Mathura, June 12 (UNI) Even as intense heat wave has so far claimed lives of six devotees visiting the famous 'Karori Mela' underway here, it has failed to deter them from congregating in this holy town.

The main attraction of the Mela is the much reverred 'Giri Govardhan Parikrama'.

A large number of devotees arrive here during 'Purshotam Maas' every year.

According to Hindu mythology, this period is considered auspicious and it is believed that the one who visits Govardhan during 'Purshotam Maas' is blessed and all wishes are granted.

Meanwhile, the intense heat wave has been causing a lot of hardships for the pilgrims.

Chief medical officer Dr D K Saxena today told UNI that to provide medical assistance to people, three temporary health centres, operational round the clock, had been set up.

To tackle the commonly occuring diseases in summers such as heat stroke, vomiting, dehydration and diarrhoea, special arrangements had been made at the hospitals and other health centres of the city.
