Modi orders modernisation of archives to preserve rare manuscripts
Patna, Jun 12 (UNI) Concerned over unscientific and haphazard way of keeping rare manuscripts in state archives, Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi has called for their immediate modernisation and upgradation in accordance with the international standards.
During a surprise visit to the state archives here yesterday, Mr Modi was visibly upset over the lack of digitalisation and serialisation of rare manuscripts, including those related to trial of veteran freedom fighter and tribal leader Birsa Munda.
Modernisation process of the archives should be started at the earliest to prevent further damage of rare manuscripts, he commented during the half-an-hour-long visit.
''Not only to be used as reference, rare manuscripts and documents should be preserved for the benefits of posterity and any sort of leniency in this connection would not be tolerated'' he warned.
Meanwhile, officials of state archives said plans were afoot to create separate galleries for the events related to 1857 revolution, 1942 Quit India movement and 1974 JP movement.
