Mumbai, June 12 (UNI) Heavy engineering behemoth Larsen&Toubro Ltd (L&T) today announced that the company has bagged two prestigious contracts -- one worth Rs 114.43 crore order from Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and the other worth Rs 877 crore from the Oil&Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
In a communique to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), L&T said the former is a turnkey construction of a 220/132 kV Gas Insulated Substation and associated Transmission Network for SAIL's Bhilai steel plant in Chhattisgarh. When completed, this project will evacuate power from 500 mega watt Captive Power Plant being set up by NTPC-SAIL Power Company Ltd and feed it to the Bhilai Steel Plant.
The work involves supply, erection and commissioning of main step down substation (MSDSV). MECON is the consultant for the project and the duration of the contract will be 16 months from this month onwards. The scope of work also includes construction of a gas insulated substation, state-of-the-art four-storied control room, installation of substation automation system (SAS), HVAC/fire fighting system, 160 MVA Power Transformers, AS / DC Auxiliary Power System, internal and external lighting, including EHV / HV cabling and associated 220/132kV transmission lines.
The other contract secured from ONGC is a turnkey project order for the NQ Re-construction (NQRC) of the company's project in Mumbai High North fields. It is worth mentioning here that this project is the largest Brownfield project of its kind awarded in the offshore oil and gas sector in India.
It may be recollected here that the NQ Complex is one of the oldest assets owned by ONGC and is operational since 1985. The order secured by L&T comprises of re-construction of offshore facilities at the NQ Complex including the replacement of the existing booster compressor with a new process gas compressor module, revamp of produced water conditioning system, hot oil system, gas dehydration unit and other utilities.
The turbo-machinery for the process gas compressor module will be supplied by the Japan-based Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI), and the module will be fabricated and delivered from the company's Modular Fabrication facility at Hazira. The Project calls for substantial quantum of offshore works, with an ''in-the-sea'' campaign spanning over 300 days in Mumbai High.
L&T bagged the prestigious order on the strength of its proven track record in meeting several stringent requirements, including a tight project schedule. The Project will be executed on a Lump Sum Turnkey basis with the completion scheduled by May 8, 2009.
The award of the NQRC Project has further strengthened our position in the Indian Upstream Hydrocarbon Sector as a leader in providing total E&C solution to the Industry, the company added.
