Kamat meets Sonia, discusses Cabinet expansion

New Delhi, June 12 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and held discussions on the expansion of his cabinet and related matters, including allocation of portfolios.

In his first visit to the national capital after taking over as Chief Minister, Mr Kamat met top leaders of the Congress and discussed several party related issues, including a replacement to Pradesh Congress Committee President Ravi Naik, who was inducted into the ministry.

Party sources said Mr Kamat discussed with Ms Gandhi the issues relating to the induction of ministers belonging to supporting parties, including the demand of the Nationalist Congress Party for cabinet berths for all the three of its MLAs.

The demand of the two supporting independent MLAs for cabinet berths also figured.

Mr Kamat is slated to have further discussion with party leaders, including Ms Gandhi's Political Secretary Ahmed Patel, either today or tomorrow.

Sources close to Mr Kamat said he would discuss the appointment of the chairmen of various government-run corporations with the party high command.

Mr Naik, who arrived here on Sunday, already had a round of discussions with party leaders regarding a new chief of the party and matters relating to the recently-held assembly election in the state.
