Haryana raises allocation for nutrition of girls

Chandigarh, Jun 12 (UNI) The Haryana government has made an enhanced allocation of over Rs 5.57 crore for implementation of 'Kishori Shakti Yojna' during the current financial year so as to improve nutritional status of adolescent girls in the state.

A spokesman for the Women and Child Development Department said that out of the total amount, over Rs. 4.87 crore would be utilised for providing supplementary nutrition to adolescent girls.

He said as against this year's enhanced allocation of budget, about Rs 2.80 crore were spent for the implementation of the scheme during last financial year.

The Kishori Shakti Yojna, he said, was aimed at improving the health and nutritional status of adolescent girls in the age group of 11 to 18 years.

Also, the objective of the scheme was to promote awareness about health, hygiene, nutrition, home management and child care.

The scheme was being implemented in all Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) projects in the state. It has benefitted 61302 girls by providing them supplementary nutrition and training, he said.
