Chandigarh, June 12 (UNI) The domestic category electricity consumers of Yamunanagar district in Haryana will be given 4.5 lakh Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) free of cost during a period of one year.

A spokesman for the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) said the Nigam had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Osram India Private Limited to supply energy saving CFLs for the consumers of Yamunanagar and Sonepat districts.

In all, the firm would supply 7.5 lakh CFLs to domestic consumers according to MoU for distribution in Yamunanagar and Sonepat districts, he added.

The firm would promote energy efficiency, educate the consumers and supply two energy efficient CFLs to every electricity consumer in return for the conventional incandescent lamps.

The energy saving company would be provided with suitable space at the UHBVN billing centres and would be given assistance.

The willing consumers would be required to produce the electricity bill and conventional bulbs for getting the Compact Fluorescent Lamps, he added.

He said the use of CFLs in large number would result in sustainable energy savings and provide relief to the distribution companies and the consumers.

The UHBVN, he said, would also support the firm to execute the project by providing database for project area, information on grid voltage and distribution and facilitate exchange of lamps through Nigam's bill collection centres.
