Gujarat Govt to undertake 'yatra' to encourage girls education

Gandhinagar, June 12 (UNI) With a view to promote girls education, the Gujarat Education Department will organise a three-day ''Girl Education Rath Yatra'' from June 15.

Gujarat Education Minister Anandiben Patel, in a statement here today, said the ''Yatra'' will cover over 18,000 villages and major towns to promote enrolment of girls in schools.

The drive is aimed at ensuring 100 per cent enrolment of girls in schools from the rural and tribal parts of the state. This is the fifth consecutive year of the ''Yatra''.

The ''Yatra'' will cover the tribal areas of central and north Gujarat. It is hoped that 7.45 lakh children, including 3.51 lakh girl, will be enrolled in schools because of the drive.

The department, meanwhile, has constructed 1500 new class-rooms while another 238 are under construction, Mrs Patel said in the statement.
