Four arrested and produced before court for looting post office

Barrackpore, Jun 12 (UNI) Altogether four people have been arrested in connection with the reported loot at the post office in Netaji colony post office of Baranagar area of the district, police said today.

All four accused were produced before the court today seeking police remand for them for further investigation in this respect.

The arrests made yesterday included that of a relative of the accused postmaster of the post office.

While postmaster Bimal Bose and a group D staff were taken into custody last night, police apprehended two more people - Dwipen Banerjee and Hanif Shekh, from Setpukur area of Barasat, who were involved in the racket in which Rs four lakh had been robbed from the post office.

About Rs 1.5 lakh was recovered last night from the possession of the duo, police added.

Police began raids last night, which was reportedly still continuing this morning. While the accused postmaster allegedly plotted the loot along with armed miscreants, the police suspect the involvement of more people in this racket.

''This was a pre-planned venture of money misappropriating,'' a senior police officer here said.
