Bangaon, Jun 12 (UNI) A dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the ruling CPI(M) in this sub-divisional town along Bangladesh border not only paralysed life but also affected international trading with Bangladesh through the Petrapol corridor near here today.

The bandh was called in protest against the alleged killing of Subhas Biswas, a former village Panchayat chief of Akaipur in Bangaon sub-division on Sunday.

Incidentally, a similar bandh was observed at Akaipur village yesterday with CPI(M) activists disrupting train services on the Ranaghat-Bangaon section of the Eastern Railway for hours together.

Official sources here said government offices remained open but the attendance were thin thus affecting normal functioning while private establishments, market places, shops, educational institutions remained closed.

Vehicular traffic, including buses were off the routes, while trucks carrying goods for export to Bangladesh were halted.

Though a few trucks with goods entered Petrapol from across the border, they were kept idle while people crossed the border on foot.

No arrests have been made in this connection, police informed.
