Copper contracts turnover up 132 pc at Rs 1,376 cr

Mumbai, June 12 (UNI) Copper contracts turnover jumped 132 per cent to Rs 1376.02 crore on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) here today during the first session till 1700 hrs.

Volumes were 46,018,000 kg and open interest (OI) of 17,780,000 kg. Copper contracts traded down between Rs 6.60 and 7.60 per kg with the June contract down 2.51 pc at Rs 295.55 per kg.

Turnover of all zinc contracts was up 54.6 pc at Rs 744.46 crore with volume of 48,810 tonnes and OI of 30,535 tonnes. Zinc contracts moved lower between Rs 2.25 and 3.7 per kg. Zinc June contract was down 2.4 pc at Rs 150.55 per kg, an MCX spokesperson said.

Turnover of all nickel contracts was Rs 539 crore with volume of 3,126,000 kg and OI of 1,058,500 kgs. Nickel for June delivery was down 5.58 pc at Rs 1691.9 per kg.

Turnover of all aluminium contracts was Rs 11.07 crore with volume of 1,006 tonnes and OI of 6,770 tonnes. Aluminium June contract was down 0.95 pc at Rs 109.15 per kg.

The turnover in all essential and non essential items on MCX in the first session up to 1700 hrs was Rs 4377.35 crore, up 39 per cent from turnover in the corresponding session of the previous day.

The total number of trades was 78,982. Total turnover of MCX up to 23:30 hrs yesterday was Rs 8247.66 crore.

MCX Comdex -- the composite index of metal, energy and agri indices -- was down 0.76 pc at 2124.23 points, MCX Metal Index was down 1.41 pc at 2507.83 points, MCX Energy Index dipped 0.24 pc to 2170.55 points and MCX Agri Index ended 0.18 pc lower at 1689.24 points.

Bullion turnover totalled Rs 1120.19 crore of which gold contracts accounted for Rs 672.63 crore and silver contracts for Rs 447.56 crore. Gold contract volumes were 7,682 kgs and open interest (OI) 13,910 kgs while silver volumes were 248,445 kgs and OI was 566,200 kgs.

Gold contracts, including gold mini, traded down in a range of Rs 12 to 57 per 10 gms, with the August gold contract down 0.65 pc at Rs 8,734 per 10 gms.

Silver contracts, including silver mini, fell between Rs 59 and 164 per kg. The July contract was down 0.9 pc at Rs 17,935 per kg, an MVCX press release said.
