Chennai, June 12 (UNI) The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will organise a national summit on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) here from June 14.

Talking to mediapersons here today about the significance of CSR, CII Chairman and Sundaram Clayton Managing Director Venu Srinivasan said ''if India's GDP has to grow at eight to ten per cent for the next five to ten years, the country must have a radically more inclusive growth in place.'' He tols reporters ''though for the past three years, India's GDP has been growing at close to nine per cent and the services and industry sector are registering a growth rate of over eleven per cent, the engine of aggregate growth has been limited in reach.'' He added the community engagement initiatives would result in inclusive growth in India, whose 'bottom of the pyramid' (BOP) market was valued at US dollar 1.2 trillion, making up the largest portion of the global US dollar five trillion BOP market, including China.

Mr Srinivasan said ''CSR could be the most effective strategy for business to manage social and political challenges.'' The two-day summit would deliberate on the transformation in business models, processing and leadership profile to meet developmental demands of the Indian industry.
