Centre assures early decision on Bhojpuri in 8th schedule

Patna, Jun 12 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Home Sri Prakash Jaiswal has said that the decision on demand for inclusion of Bhojpuri language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution would be taken soon.

In a letter addressed to JD(U) Rajya Sabha member Ali Anwar, Mr Jaiswal assured him that the Union government would soon take a decision on his demand after giving consideration on all related aspects.

''A committee constituted under the chairmanship of the Sitakant Mahapatra for looking into the matter of inclusion of some more languages in eighth schedule of the constitution, had already submitted its report,'' he said adding the government would take a decision after studying full text of the report.

Earlier, Mr Anwar had stated in the Rajya Sabha that Bhojpuri language was rich and it was spoken by more than 10 crore people spread over several districts in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.

He had also brought to the notice of the government that there was considerable number of Bhojpuri-speaking people in Mauritius, Fiji, Trinidad, Surinam, Guinea, Africa and several other countries.
