Cement stocks rise over reports of robust May sales
Mumbai, June 12 (UNI) Battered cement stocks staged a strong comeback on the bourses today on fresh buying after the Cement Manufacturers' Association indicated that sales rose by 10.6 per cent to 14.21 million tonnes in May this year, market analysts said.
On the premier Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), cement major ACC surged by 5.30 per cent to Rs 805 on 5.10 lakh shares and was the top gainer among Sensex constituents.
Other gainers from the cement pack included Gujarat Ambuja Cements which also rose by 1.37 per cent to Rs 110.70, Birla Corporation was up by 3.46 per cent to Rs 218.25, India Cements surged by 4.62 per cent to Rs 174.45, and Madras Cement was up by 1.20 per cent to Rs 2561.
