Areva to set up instrument transformer unit in Hosur
Hosur, Jun 12 (UNI) AREVA Transmission and Distribution, one of the world's leading T and D companies today laid the foundation stone for its new instrument transformer factory here to be set up with an investment of Rs.100 crore.
Tamil Nadu Power Minister Arcot Veeraswamy laid the foundation stone for the new facility.
''This strategic move demonstrates AREVA T and D's technical competence and market consolidation plans in the high-voltage instrument transformers business'' Marius Vassoille, Executive Vice President, Products of AREVA T and D said at the function. This would be the third unit of Areva in Tamil Nadu. The company had eight fully functional manufacturing units in the country.
The new facility would provide direct employment to 300 when fully functional.
According to the company officials, Hosur site would be a world class Competency Center for High Voltage (HV) Instrument Transformers up to 800 kV and Medium voltage ranging from 145 - 245 kV. It will also manufacture Line Traps up to 800 kV and Condenser Bushings for Power Transformers up to 400 kV. Increasing its export potential to Asia (except China) was also in the offing.
AREVA, the world leader in the Instrument Transformers product segment, with 26 per cent market share in this segment, was poised for greater investment opportunities in dynamic markets of developing nations of Asia, particularly India, the company said in a release.
