Review of Customary Laws and Practices Bill: APSCW

Itanagar, Jun 12: Advocating uniform customary laws for different tribes, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women(APSCW) Chairman Jarjum Ete has called for reviewing the Arunachal Pradesh Bill for Customary Laws and Social Practices, 1994.

Speaking at a conference of Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society(APWWS) held here recently, Ms Ete, also spokesperson of the APWWS, called for a thorough debate on sensitive issues, including land rights and long term impact of globalised economy, to ensure security of the future generations.

Expressing concern over the reported human rights violation in Tirap and Changlang districts by some underground elements, Ms Ete sought the cooperation of all quarters for effective functioning of the Commission.

Arunachal Citizens Rights Chairperson Bamang Anthony highlighted the importance of Right to Information Act(RTI), 2005, and procedures for obtaining information.

APSCW Members Gumri Ringu and Jaya Joram explained the activities of the commission, which has been spearheading for women emancipation and empowerment.
