2 Army personnel and 3 militants killed in north Kashmir encounter

Srinagar, June 12 (UNI) Two army personnel and three militants were killed and four soldiers wounded in a fierce encounter in the frontier district of Kupwara today A Defence Ministry spokesman said troops and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at Gagul, in north Kashmir district of Kupwara this afternoon following a tip off about some militants hiding there.

As the troops were sealing the area, militants opened fire and also hurled hand grenades. Troops also retaliated and in the fierce clash two soldiers were killed and four others were wounded.

Three militants were also eliminated in the fight, he said adding that operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
