Arunachal: 14 injured as truck plunges in deep gorge
Itanagar, Jun 12: About 14 persons had sustained injuries when a truck, skidded off a narrow lane along the Hayuliang-Wallong BRTF road and fell into a 100 m deep gorge in Anjaw district near here.
The truck, belonging to the Urban Development Department, was carrying 16 persons when the incident occurred on Sunday.
Although the vehicle turned upside down and rolled downwards dangerously, no casualties were reported, official sources said.
Among the passengers, two escaped unscathed, while eight were left with grievous injuries.
Almost all of them were single-handedly rescued by one Teondeonso Pul of Wallo village, before the other villagers could reach the spot, sources added.
The victims were rushed to Hayuliang Hospital, while some of them were given first aid at the Quibang sub-centre.
Later, local MLA and Finance Minister Kalikho Pul, on an official tour to Chaglagam and Goiliang areas, arrived with a team of police, local officers and doctors to take care of the victims.
Meanwhile, the victims were shifted to Dibrugarh in neighbouring Asom for further treatment, sources added.
