1 killed, 17 injured in clash over land dispute

Yamunanagar, Jun 12 (UNI) One person was killed and 17 people were injured when two groups of farmers clashed over a land dispute in Jathlana village in the district today.

Dila Ram (60) died on the spot and 17 people, including four women, were left injured after the clash at Jathlana over 102-acre agricultural land which was auctioned by the village panchayat on May 31. The injured were admitted to various hospitals.

The clash took place between the new allottees and those farmers who were in possession of the land earlier, police said.

The villagers blocked the traffic for about two hours by putting the dead body on the main road and raised slogans against the alleged police inaction.

Later, local police officers reached the spot and persuaded the agitated farmers to lift the blockade.

No arrest has been made so far.
