YSR asks Industries Dept to generate two lakh jobs
Hyderabad, Jun 11 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy called upon Industries Department to generate at least two lakh employment opportunities in the manufacturing sector alone in the next two years.
Dr Reddy made the direction while reviewing the achievements, targets, mega industries on the pipeline, status of the projects which signed MoU and employment created, with the top officials of the industries department at the Secretariat here today.
He urged the senior officers to do everything to achieve this target since there was an industrial buoyancy and investment boom in the state.
The Chief Minister asked the Finance Department to clear all the incentives and concessions assured to the new industries as stipulated in the Industrial and Investment Policy.
A total 6,092 projects were grounded during 2004-07 he said adding it was only 5046 during 2001-04. The employment created during this period was 1,28,296, while it was only 94,691 during 2001-04, he said.
Major sectors implemented in the last three years were iron and steel, sponge iron, paper, cotton yarn, cement, ceramics and food processing. Small scale industries grounded in the last three years were mainly electrical, electronic goods, food, agro, marine produces, cotton textiles, jute produces, paper, pulp and publishing, leather produces, chemicals including bulk drugs, rubber, plastics, petroleum and coal tar products, non-metallic mineral, basic metals, alloy industries and power generation, officials explained to the Chief Minister.
Large and medium industries, with an employment potential of 44,620 were implemented during the last three years with a total investment of Rs 8,999 crore. Large and medium industries under execution were worth Rs 19,200 crore, with employment generated for for 38,118. Mega Projects under initial stages were worth Rs 78,838 crores with an employment potential of 1,72,901.
