Water level in Cauvery reservoirs dips as monsoon delays
Mysore, June 11 (UNI) The delay in monsoon rains has caused a drastic fall in the Cauvery Basin Reservoirs to much below the normal level.
The Irrigation Department sources told UNI that the pre-monsoon rains had failed first and now not much rain was reported in the catchment areas coming under Kodagu district.
Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir, across Cauvery near here is the main source of irrigation and drinking water. It had not received sufficient amount of inflow during the past few weeks.
It slumped to 67.52 feet against a maximum level of 124.8. Inflow was at 139 cusecs and the outflow was 200 cusecs. The level was at 97.47 feet during the same period last year.
While the level at the Kabini Reservoir stood at 2255 feet, with inflow of a mere 84 cusecs, outflow was 800 cusecs. The level was 2274.74 feet on the same date last year. Water level at Marangi Reservoir was 2828 feet, compared to 2832 feet last year.
