UTStarcom, United Telecom tie up for Goa SWAN project

Panaji, June 11 (UNI) UTStarcom Inc, a global leader in IP-based, end-to-end networking solutions and services, today announced a contract with Bangalore-based United Telecom Limited (UTL) to deploy Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) fibre access solution as the backbone for the new State Wide Area Network (SWAN) in Goa.

A pioneer in the development and management of e-governance and next generation network infrastructure solutions, UTL is the first company to deploy GEPON technology to deliver e-governance and tripple-play services to the citizens of Goa, according to an official statement here today.

It is for the first time that UTStarcom has entered into such a tie up with the Indian company to prove its dominant position as the leading provider of innovative broadband techonologies to the Indian market, its Managing Director Vijay Yadav, in charge of South Asia operations, said.

The network, he said, is capable of delivering upto one gigabit per second bandwidth to each office and is expected to be extended to cover taluka and village areas enabling the state to provide the citizens with better services through e-governance initiatives, he added.

The inititives span broadcast quality IPTV and on-demand entertainment, telemedicine, distance learning and e-commerce, according to UTL MD Dr Rajmohan Rao.
