Two youths drown in Bhakra canal

Patiala June 11 (UNI) Two youths drowned in the Bhakra canal near here last evening, police said today.

Police said that Narinder Singh (19), son of former municipal councillor Niranjan Dass, and his friend Baldeep Singh, resident of Bhanri village, had gone to the canal to take a bath, when suddenly one of them slipped into the strong current of the canal. To save him the other boy also jumped in, but both of them were swept away by the strong current.

A report has been registered in Sadar police station.

Meanwhile, in another incident, the body of an eight month old girl child have been found near the railway station here today. The girl is still not identified. Police has started an investigation into the incident.
