Teenaged girl attempts to immolate herself

Sangrur, June 11 (UNI) A teenaged girl attempted to commit suicide outside the residence of a married man in Malerkotla town of the district last night, police today stated.

According to police sources, the girl identified Sunita of Sunam set herself on fire after Mohammed Ashraf, who was already married refused to perform 'nikah' with her. However the mother of Ashraf rushed out of the house and immediately extinguished the flames.

The girl was taken to the civil hospital in Malerkotla where she is being treated for minor burn injuries.The police has registered an attempt to suicide case against the girl.
