Mumbai, June 11 (UNI) A local court today adjourned till June 25, the hearing of the 1997 Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar firing case as prosecution sought time to file certain documents.

Ad hoc additional sessions judge A Khatwakar directed the prosecution to submit a map of the site as it had not been submitted with the FIR. The court also directed the prosecution to furnish the list of witnesses, and details of counter cases.

On July 11, 1997, riots had erupted at Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar at Ghatkopar following defacement of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue.

To control the mob, State Reserve Police (SRP) sub-inspector Manohar Kadam had issued orders to open fire in which ten persons were killed.

After a thorough inquiry, Kadam was prosecuted under Section 304 (II) of the Indian Penal Code which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Families of the victims had, however, moved the court demanding that Kadam be prosecuted under Section 302 of the IPC on murder charges.
