UP: Panchayat directs rapist to marry victim

Muzaffarnagar, June 11: In a significant judgement, a panchayat directed a rapist to marry the victim in Meerapur area of this district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, Mukaram of Mujhera Sadat village had been molesting his girlfriend Shaheen since long.

When Mukaram refused to wed, the girl registered a rape case at Meerapur police station.

After the incident came to the notice of the villagers, a panchayat was called on Wednesday, which ordered the youth to wishfully accept the girl by marrying her.
