Imphal, Jun 11 (UNI) Moreh, the border town in Manipur's Chandel district, was limping back to normality after 11 people from two communities were killed in inter-factional clashes last Saturday.

About two houses were also set on fire during the violence.

Director General of Police Y Joykumar along with other civil and police officials had been camping at Moreh, 110 km from here, to restore peace.

Mr Joykumar said about 600 people, who were taking shelter at various hotels and houses in neighbouring Myanmar, were yet to return.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC had been clamped in the town and additional forces deployed to avoid untoward incidents, Mr Joykumar said.

The factional clashes had also affected border trade since May.

Governor Dr S S Sidhu had appealed to all in the state not to rely on rumours and maintain peace and harmony in the state.

The government also ordered a Magisterial inquiry into the incident.

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who was in New Delhi, returned to the state last night by a special flight.

Police said security measures were also taken up at Khurai, Imphal East.

A large number of organisations, including All Manipur Students Union, United Committee Manipur, All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM), have condemned the killing and have appealed to all the people for peace.

The ethnic communities signed an agreement on June 6 to maintain peace and harmony in the state.
