Ghazipur, June 11 (UNI) Controversial Independent MLA from Mau Mukhtar Ansari was today produced in a local court in an 11-year-old case.

On February 27, 1996, Mukhtar and his armed aides had fired indiscriminately on the then ASP Uday Shankar Jaiswal, when he signalled their convey of vehicles to stop at the Lanka Bus Station.

Later, a named FIR was lodged against Mukhtar, Pathan Mahasabha state president Haider Ali Tiger, Bhim Singh and others.

Meanwhile, then police constable Sudhakar Pandey recorded his statement in the case as a witness today.

Non-bailable warrants were also issued against two constables Ashok Kumar Singh and Ravindra Kumar.

The next date of hearing in the case has been fixed as June 15.

In the aftermath of the Mau communal riots, the court -- on an application of Ansari -- had cancelled his bail in this case on October 25, 2005 and sent him to jail.

He is also the prime accused in the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai.
