Jute mill reopens after bi-partite agreement talks
Barrackpore, June 11: After more than a year, the Kankinara Jute Mill in North 24 Parganas, which was closed since May 20 last year, reopened today.
The mill was closed after its management declared suspension of work, following labour unrest in the mill, leaving nearly 4,000 employees and workers jobless.
According to the jute mill union sources here, a recent bi-partite agreement between the union leaders and the mill management led to re-opening of the mill.
The leaders of 10 operating unions of the employees and workers, affiliated to CITU, INTUC, BMS, AITUC, participated in the bi-partite talks.
The management initially engaged about 100 workers in the mill to resume production as early as possible, official sources said.
