Nashik, June 11 (UNI) Highly trained Indian managers are making their mark in industries in Europe and other countries, including Fortune 500 companies, Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office said today.

Addressing the first convocation ceremony of the Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management (SIOM) here, Mr Chavan said the present era is ''the era of Indian managers as they are making an impact in the world industry''.

''You are the techno-business managers of tomorrow, as you have an engineering as well as a management degree. You are fortunate to have spent two years in such a prestigious institute,'' he said.

''On the one hand we have booming exports, strong rupee, increasing foreign flows for investment in industry and growing tax revenues. We have more money, we are spending more money. This is the growth part of our aim of growth with equity,'' the Minister said.

''The growth part is easy, but the equity part is challenging,'' he noted.

''Institutions founded by our forefathers will give us an edge over other economies. We attract large Foreign Direct investment (FDI) which creates more or large business opporunities. But there are some other things, there are some worries, which include regional disparity, income disparity. Slow agriculture growth, no job creation in organised sector, poor state of physical and social infrastructure, energy deficiency, poor state of public health, terrorism, transperancy in government and environmental degradation,'' he said.

''For the first time, India Inc has more investment abroad than FDI we receive. We have unprecedented opportunities but there is severe competition. India missed the industrial revolution but we are not going to lose the information revolution, we are in the middle of it at present,'' Mr Chavan added.

The Minister presented the post-graduate diploma in operations management to 63 students of the 2005-07 batch.

SIOM deputy director Dr Vandana Sonawane, director Gangadhar Joshi, president and chief director Dr S B Muzumdar were present at the function.
