Heatwave claims 9 lives in Delhi, humidity rises
New Delhi, June 11 (UNI) The heatwave today claimed nine lives in the national capital, despite the mercury dipping to 41.1 degress Celsius.
Police said all the nine deaths were reported from South district and most of the victims were labourers.
Three people were killed in Lajpat Nagar, two in Kalkaji area and one each in Okhla, Badarpur, Srinivaspuri and Sangam Vihar.
The Met department said there was a drop of three degrees in temperature as compared to yesterday's maximum, which was recorded at 44 degrees.
The minimum also registered a fall at 31.5 degrees against yesterday's 34 degrees.
But a huge leap in maximum humidity neutralised the relief as it soared to 73 per cent against yesterday's 50 per cent.
Even the minimum humidity stood at 41 per cent, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The Met department has predicted mainly clear sky and duststorm in some areas. A thunderstorm may also occur and bring drizzle if not rain, weatherman said.
Over the next 24 hours the temperature is likely stay around 40 degrees, it said.
