HC upholds GO on conducting test for temporary employees
Chennai, June 11 (UNI) The Madras High Court today upheld the Tamil Nadu Government Order (GO) to conduct a special competitive examination in Grade IV through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) for absorbing temporary assistants and junior assistants in the secretariat and various departments in districts.
A division bench comprising Justices F M Ibrahim Kalifullah and V Dhanapalan upheld the GO dated September 19, 2006 while dismissing a Public Interest Litigation and writ petition filed by advocate M Gnanasekaran, M Ramesh and three other unemployed graduates respectively, challenging the GO.
On July one, 2003 the government servants in the secretariat and the districts went on strike en masse, pressing for acceptance of their charter of demands.
The state government passed an order to dismiss the striking employees.
On July four, 2003, the government issued a GO to recruit temporary assistants in the secretariat and junior assistants in the districts.
The Commissioner of Employment and Training was asked to send a list of eligible candiates to fill up thousand post in secretariat.
Similar direction was sent to other district employment exchanges asking them to send a list of eligible candidates by creating 500 temporary post in each district.
Dismissing the petitions, the bench held the impugned GO was valid in law and there was no case made out.
