HC relief to 15 corporators
Mumbai, June 11 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today granted interim relief to fifteen corporators from Mumbai, Pune, Pimpri Chinchawad and Thane Municipal Corporations, facing disqualification as their caste certificates were invalidated by the caste scrutiny committees.
A division bench comprising of Justices J N Patel and Amjad Sayyad restrained the respective corporations from taking any coercive action against all these corporators.
The list includes corporators Suresh Gangan, Simantini Koregaonkar, Manmohan Chonkar, Harun Khan, Vishnath Mahadeshwar and Subhash Sawant from Mumbai, Manoj Khanolkar, Ganesh Bhondane, Eknath Thorat, Smita Gunjekar and Satish Phalke from Pimpri-Chinchwad, Shankar Kemase, Deepak Bodke and Rajendra Korde from Pune and Hareshwar Tandel from Thane municipal corporations.
All these corporators are facing disqualification as per the enactment adopted by the state government that provides for deemed disqualification if caste scrutiny claims are invalidated. The High Court relief has atleast saved their posts until the next hearings, sheduled for different dates.
