HC allows Amarmani to go to Lucknow to take oath as MLA

Dehra Dun, June 11 (UNI) The Uttarakhand High Court today allowed Amarmani Tripathy, the main accused in the Madhumita Shukla murder case, to visit Lucknow to take oath as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

Tripathy's lawyer Rakesh Thapliyal said the court allowed the accused, who is lodged in a jail here, to leave for Lucknow in the custody of a CBI officer and complete oath taking formalities by June 16 and return the next day.

He said Tripathy was likely to be taken to Lucknow on June 12.

The accused had won the recent assembly election from the Laxmipur seat in Mahargunj district of Uttar Pradesh.

Tripathy had filed a petition in the Dehra Dun Special Court, where the case is being heard, asking for permission to go to Lucknow to take oath as an MLA which was rejected on May 16.

He then filed a petition in the Uttarakhand High Court in Nainital but later withdrew it on June 6 and refiled the plea.

Tripathyhad been allowed to go and file his nomination papers for UP Assembly polls by the Supreme Court.
