Haryana registers record power supply

Chandigarh, Jun 11 (UNI) The Haryana Power Utilities made a record supply of 904 lakh units of power in the state yesterday against 783 lakh units of power supplied on the corresponding day of last year.

The previous one day supply record was of 899 lakh units on July 23, 2006, an official spokesman said here today.

The maximum load on transmission and distribution system had also been highest at 4583 M W yesterday. The previous record of load on the system was of 4224 MW on July 23, 2006.

The spokesman said as there was sharp increase in demand due to scorching heat, the state required over 950 lakh units of power daily. The peaking demand was estimated to be 4700-4800 MW in the state against which power utilities supplied 4583 MW yesterday.

The load of 4583 MW on the transmission and distribution system of the state was highest in the history of Haryana, he added.

He said the State Power Utilities had to overdraw 141 lakh units of power from the power grid at very high rates to meet the demand of power in the state.

''The Utilities are making strenuous efforts to supply maximum possible power to all categories of consumers, but frequency in Northern Grid is hovering at a level below 49 Hz against normal level of 50 Hz,'' he said.

As such the availability of power in the Grid, for purchasing even at higher rates, is difficult, he added.

He said the authorities of Northern Power Grid directed the Utilities to impose undeclared power cuts in the state.

However, efforts were being made that adequate supply was given to the agriculture sector and other categories of consumers.

Sufficient power supply had been ensured for drinking water all over the State, he added.
