Ganga Action Plan to be reviewed-Nitish
Patna Jun 11 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced to review the Ganga Action Paln (GAP) and said sewage water would be treated before disposal into rivers Ganga and Punpun.
Mr Kumar told newspersons here that untreated sewage water was extensively damaging the natural habitat and the life of the common people. He said the entire drainage system of Patna, specially of the low lying areas here, was being improved.
Reiterating his commitments for providing better civic facilities, he admitted that Patna had been developed in an unplanned manner which was the major factor for water logging. He said apart from long term scheme an instant scheme had been framed and was being executed to solve the problems of water logging.
Mr Kumar alleged that central agencies and national building Construction Corporation had failed in achieving the target fixed to eradicate the water logging problems and for improving drainage system.
To a query regarding Bihari labourers taken to Andaman, he said Lt Governor of Andaman Bhupendra Singh assured him on the telephone about their safety and security.
According to Mr Kumar of the 78 labourers 77 were keen to return.
He said the state government would bring them back by a special plane on June 17 and rehabilitate them.
Mr Kumar also announced to extend financial assistance to poor students seeking admission in prestigious institutions. Apart from this a special cell had been set up in the institutional finance department for providing educational loans through banks, he said adding the students with annual family income of Rs one lakh would be given Rs 50,000 financial aid through the CM's relief fund for their admission in institutions like IIT.
