Fake Bishop's aide held in multi-crore cheating case

Chennai, June 11 (UNI) The Crime Branch CID (CB-CID) police achieved yet another breakthrough in the multi-crore cheating case involving fake 'Bishop' Yobu Saravanan and others, by arresting one of his most wanted associates recently.

CB-CID sources said they arrested one Ramanathan, a close associate of Saravanan and seized Rs 70 lakhs in cash and documents on various properties worth Rs 1.40 crore.

So far CB-CID had arrested six persons, including Yobu Saravanan and seized Rs 9.4 crore in cash, 40 sovereigns of gold, 11 cars worth Rs one crore, documents of investment in land and properties worth Rs 4.39 crore. Efforts were on to get Tamil Nadu Government's permission to acquire such properties, sources added.

Saravanan had formed a trust, with himself and five of his associates as trustees. It collected a huge sum of money from the public promising that houses would be constructed for them. However, they did not abide by the promise nor returned the money.

Based on several complaints, the CB-CID police had arrested them.
