Vijayawada, June 11: The six CPI(M) leaders' indefinite hunger strike, launched in front of the Sub-Collector's office as part of the intensification of their agitation for house sites and houses for the poor, entered its second day today.

CPI(M) State Executive member Ch Babu Rao, who led the stir, said they had resorted to the fast as the State Government had failed to react positively to the series of agitations taken up by the party.

The party had organised 'Bhooporattam', followed by 'Mahadharna' and public rally in this connection and hundreds of BPL (Below Poverty Line) families participated in the movements, he noted.

Asserting that the fast would continue until their demands were accepted, he alleged that the State Government had failed to protect the interests of the poor and gone back on its poll promise of distributing house sites to BPL families.

Meanwhile, the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) extended solidarity to the fasting CPI(M) leaders.

AIDWA City Secretary V Aruna, in a statement here, criticised the State Government for failing to honour its poll promise of distributing house sites and houses to the poor.
