Tripura: Court asks SP inquire atrocities in custody
Agartala, Jun 11: The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Dhalai district in North Tripura today asked the district superintendent of police to conduct inquiry into the alleged confinement of an accused for 48 hours in police custody without informing the court.
According to reports, police had arrested one Himadri Bagchi(30) on June 7 in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, on charges of eve-teasing,lodged by two female traffic constables in Kamalpur, but he was allegedly not produced before the court in time.
He was allegedly tortured in police lock-up and finally produced before the court on June 9, instead of June 8.
The justice felt Himadri was not physically fit when he was produced in court and sent him for medical tests, which reportedly proved the allegation of physical harassment in police custody.
Consequently, the CJM asked the SP to investigate the matter and submit a report at the earliest and ordered to ensure proper medication.
