Cauvery reservoirs nearing empty due to monsoon delay

Mysore, Jun 11 (UNI) A delay monsoon rains has caused drastic fall in the Cauvery Basin Reservoirs to much below the normal level.

The irrigation department sources told UNI that the first the pre monsoon rains had failed and now not much rain was reported in the catchment areas coming under Kodagu district.

Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir, across Cauvery near here is the main source of irrigation and drinking water. It had not received sufficient amount of inflow during the past few weeks.

It slumped to 67.52 feet against a maximum level of 124.8. Iinflow was at 139 cusces and the outflow was 200 cusces. The level was at 97.47 feet during the same period last year.

While the level at the Kabini Reservoir stood at 2255 feet, with inflow of a mere 84 cusces while outflow was 800 cusces. The level was 2274.74 feet last year. The Marangi Reservoir was 2828 feet compared to 2832 feet last year.
