Cabinet sub committee approves new Nursing Education Policy

Bangalore, June 11 (UNI) Karnataka Medical Education Minister V S Acharya today said that the Cabinet Sub-Committee today approved introduction of new Nursing Education Policy as recommended by Gurumurthy Committee.

Talking to newsmen after the meeting, he said that the matter would be placed before the Cabinet in the next meeting for a final decision.

The government has proposed to lift the blanket ban imposed two years back on opening of new Nursing Colleges due to inadequate infrastructure facilities at the colleges, he added.

The Committee has recommended that the new Colleges should have their own buildings, parent hospital with 150 beds to provide quality education. However, the Karnataka Nursing Council would verify the infrastructure facilities before giving its clearance, he added.

Stating that the pharmacology is a leading subject and India is likely to become the world leader in the coming decade, he said the government has planned to open 24 M Pharma colleges to provide more teaching staff to the existing 160 Pharmacy colleges in the state.
