Black Elephant club wins Hot Weather cricket

Patiala, June 11 (UNI) Black Elephant Cricket Club, Patiala, whipped the local New Gymkhana X1 (Patiala Cricket Association) by 144 runs in the final of 9th Hot Weather Cricket Tournament (Under-13) played here yesterday at the MES cricket ground.

Black Elephant won the toss and batted first. In the allotted 45 overs, they piled up a huge total of 232 for 7, showing no mercy to the depleted New Gymkhana X1 bowling attack.

Anmolpreet Singh played a belligerent innings of 80, hitting ten fours; Prabhjot Singh was also in his elements, scoring 65 in style, which comprised 9 fours; Sukhwinder scored a quick 21 when the Black Elephant innings came to an end.

For New Gymkhana X1, Sagar Kumar took 2 for 38 and Sudhir Kumar bagged 2 wickets, conceding 49 runs.

In reply, New Gymkhana X1 were bundled out for 98 in 35.2 overs.

Manpreet Singh (21) and Sudhir Kumar (19) were the only batsmen who played the Black Elephant bowlers with a measure of confidence, but could not check the slide.

For Black Elephant, Sukhwinder Singh bowled an incredible spell to bag 4 wickets, giving away only 7 runs. He was ably supported by Kanwarpreet Singh who took 3 for 21.

In the prize distribution function, held late in the afternoon, Anmolpreet was declared the best batsman of the tournament, Jashandeep Singh was declared the best bowler, Abhinav Mehta got the best wicketkeeper prize.

Manpreet Singh was declared the best fielder. Karan Kaila of YPS, Patiala, got the 'Boy of the Tournament' award.
