BJP opposes AP's quota plan for Muslims
Hyderabad, June 11 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today strongly opposed the Y S Rajasekhara Reddy Government's decision to promulgate an ordinance to implement reservation for Muslims in Andhra Pradesh within a month and described it as a divisive agenda.
Talking to mediapersons here, Party Spokesman Prakash Javadeker said the decision to provide reservations to Muslims on religious grounds was against the spirit of the Constitution and the concept of secularism.
It was a divisive vote bank politics with no intention or interest for minority welfare, he alleged.
Mr Javadeker said his party would have welcomed reservation if the government had taken steps to end deprivation and accorded empowerment to all disadvantaged groups without any discrimination.
But Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's intentions were political and would hurt the roots of national unity, he alleged.
